MAN
IN ART
A Selection
of decorative, wearable objects by Inuit artists of Greenland

The Inuit decorated
all hunting implements and utility objects as they believed
it will stimulate better hunting and secure subsistence.
These small figures and imaginative masks served magic
purposes: they were ways of forging links between man
and the spirits that rule nature. Most greenland artists
use materials known from Inuit past: soapstone, bone,
antler, tusk and driftwood.
